Description including Unit Aims

This unit will develop the approaches to performance and screen studies analysis studied at levels C and I through an investigation of selected practices from this range of media. The practices will be investigated through theoretical paradigms and critical perspectives appropriate to advanced study of these media, selected for the ways they contrast and complement each other. The unit will focus on topic areas which are common to the media and which provide exemplary theoretical frameworks through which they can be investigated. Lectures, seminars and workshops will explore these topics, drawing on the current research of staff as appropriate. The unit will provide students with the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and analytical skills by specialising in the investigation of particular media (drama, theatre, performance, film, television, video and related audio-visual media) through the framework of the topics, as well as develop their independent study skills through an extended essay.
