The unit cover the Mesolithic to the Neolithic periods (10,000 - 2,000BC). It will trace the development of advanced hunter-gatherers to farming communities within a constantly shifting environment. The Mesolithic period has been previously looked at as a series of subsistence economies and this sub-unit will explore these within a landscape perspective, using theoretical models. The Neolithic sub-unit will trace the ideological changes that came with monumentality and a new economic base, with an emphasis on regionality.
