Description including Unit Aims

This unit covers experimental approaches for the isolation, characterisation and detailed analysis of protein structure and function, and the study of bioenergetics including oxido-reduction reactions and the conservation of energy in mitochondria and chloroplasts. Emphasis is placed on quantitative aspects for which specialised tutorials are provided. The unit also contains five practical classes providing experience in modern biochemical techniques. An assessed essay contributes 10% of the marks for this unit, and the five unit practicals contribute 5%.
