This unit covers in detail the properties of the cell surface and cell communication including the structure and properties of membranes and membrane proteins, the detailed mechanism of action of hormones and growth factors, and the secretion pathway. The unit contains five accompanying support sessions which include Directed Self Education and practicals. An assessed essay on a topic covered in the lectures contributes 10% of the marks for this unit, and the five unit practicals contribute 5%.
