Description including Unit Aims

The unit follows the same core structure (about 90 lectures) as BIOC30100, but the specialist lectures (about 30) will cover advanced molecular biological techniques and their application to biotechnology. Topics will include molecular genetic approaches to the rational redesign of enzymes and methods for the large scale production of recombinant proteins in prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems. The application of molecular biological techniques to both the membrane traffic within eukaryotic cells and the study of prokaryotic and eukaryotic gene structure and function will be considered.
