Description including Unit Aims

This course will provide a survey of selected ecosystems with an emphasis on aquatic environments. Ecosystems will be characterised by considering how the interplay between physical, chemical and biological factors influence their diversity and productivity. The physiological processes and responses that suit organisms (including microbes, plants and animals) to life in specific environments will be considered. The course includes 15 hours of lectures, together with 9 hours of practical work.
