Human disease is taught as a horizontally integrated theme during all three terms of year 3 of the BDS Programme. It consists of three elements of General Medicine, General Surgery and Clinical Microbiology and Clinical Pathology. The medicine and surgery elements are new but the Clinical Microbiology is underpinned by the teaching received in year 2. The Teaching Unit of Human Disease develops some themes that are elaborated upon later in the Programme during the Oral Disease Teaching Unit providing some vertical integration in the teaching.
