The Unit of Restorative 1 (Skills) Dental Techniques will be taught during the time from Term 2.2 until Term 4.3. It will provide introductory training in practical aspects of Restorative Dentistry and foster teamwork in clinical practice.
This Unit, along with the Unit of Biomaterial Science, embraces all of the preparatory teaching that is required to enable students to attain the necessary standards of knowledge, clinical skill and professional attitude to be considered safe to commence the treatment of patients requiring a basic level of restorative care. Many of the Elements are taught as horizontally and vertically integrated themes during year 2. The teaching crosses Year boundaries and underpins the clinical teaching that takes place during Years 3 and 4 of the BDS Dental Programme. Some of the Elements of advanced study in Year 4 provide the students with greater knowledge, skills and attitude to allow them to provide comprehensive and totally integrated Restorative care and prepare them for independent practice.
