The Teaching Unit comprises 3 elements: 1. Operative/Endodontolog/Fixed Prosthodontics 2. Clinical Prosthetics (Removable Prosthetic Dentistry 2) 3. Clinical Periodontology (Periodontology 2) During Year 2 Term 2 students are prepared for working in the Clinical Environment and are introduced to Health and Safety and Cross Infection Control, Manual Handling, Patient Administration and Dental Charting with particular emphasis on clinical management of Periodontology patients. During Year 2 Term 3 and Year 3 Term 1 students will treat their own Periodontology patients and will also work with their peers acting as dental assistants. During Year 3 Term 2 and Term 3 and throughout the Clinical Years 4 and 5 students are taught the three Restorative disciplines. Integrated teaching takes place throughout the course but students are allocated specific sessions to develop clinical skills within the three listed disciplines. The Clinical Restorative Dentistry course builds on skills taught in the Clinical Skills Laboratory environment. The Unit emphasises the need for total patient care.
