The Unit allows students to encounter and experience the basic issues involved in collaborative production of short-form narrative material, and to develop a coherent overview of each stage and area of the process. It is based on the collaborative production of short video documentaries, following a structured approach. As an important element in the foundation stage of the course the unit provides the first opportunity for students to work collaboratively towards the realisation of a complete project. This introduces disciplines and issues from which general understandings are drawn. The process acts as model for production procedures, while the portfolio submitted for assessment develops capacity in the interrogation of narrative and aesthetic forms and conventions.
