This unit gives an overview of the use of a wide range of palaeoclimate proxies applicable over different timescales focusing on the Cenozoic. It will cover the use of chemical and biological data from ice cores, lake and ocean sediments. It outlines the historical developments of these methodologies. Its scope covers the physical climate system (temperature, moisture and seasonality), biogeochemical cycles, ecosystems and human dimensions of environmental change.
