This unit will examine the latest ethical approaches adopted by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, British Psychological Society, United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, and other national professional bodies relevant to the participants, and invite analysis of the basis of each of these approaches. A selection of ethical issues provided by the tutor and generated by students will be explored in detail with reference to ethical and legal aspects of professional ethics and personal values. Students will be encouraged to use and contrast different approaches to ethical problem solving. Attention will be paid to the ethical implications of cultural difference and personal values for counselling.
