Description including Unit Aims

This unit explores the organisation of and patterns within relevant systems, groups and contexts within which and with which counsellors work; this includes couples, families, groups and working contexts.

Aims:

This unit aims to equip students with an understanding of the effect on individuals of the systems within which they work and live. It will enable them to take account of those effects in their work as counsellors.

Intended Learning Outcomes

Successful completion of this unit will enable a student to:

  • On the basis of reasoned argument, identify the effects on individuals within the systems of groups and organisations
  • Explore interventions to optimise interactions in these settings
  • Identify their own preferred mode of working in organisational settings

Assessment Information

Either:

  • Essay (4 – 4,500 words)

Or

  • Case study (4 – 4,500) with a specific focus on systems

To demonstrate a critical understanding of theoretical frameworks relating to systems with particular emphasis on the systems of work, effective application of this knowledge to practice and evidence of researchmindedness.
