Description including Unit Aims

This unit will introduce a range of data analysis techniques. Students will learn to apply modern statistical and pattern recognition approaches to real world datasets, and which will involve the basic stages of classical statistics: descriptive statistics and data visualisation; basic probability and statistical inference; hypothesis testing etc. The statistical inference algorithms will be those of Multivariate LInear Statistics, mostly based on linear algebra. The students will get first hand experience of using Matlab to manipulate large real world datsets.
