The Shakespeare and English literature pathway centres on the sustained investigation of a number of large questions about the nature of literary relations, influence and creativity, with particular reference to the works of Shakespeare. It ranges broadly over the various ways of characterising literary relations, including notions such as allusion, echo, analogue, revision, originality and intertextuality. The course explores both the various kinds of transformation which Shakespeare effected on his source material, and the presence and influence of Shakespeare in the work of later writers.
