Description including Unit Aims

This unit will examine the various roles of law in economic management. The first part of the unit will concentrate on government intervention in industry through ownership, regulation or de-regulation, paying particular attention to the development of independent regulatory agencies. The second part of the unit will examine the use of law in economic management (for example, the role of the Bank of England) and the use of contractual techniques by government (for example, through the private finance initiative).
