Description including Unit Aims

Planning Law governs the processes through which the state manages change within the built and natural environment: mediating conflict and promoting optimum land use. Whilst a law unit, the course draws upon the practice of planning to help students appreciate the interaction of law and planning policy. Students are able to explore particular planning themes in depth and to develop their own individual interests through a piece of personal research in the form of an individual project. Topics covered include: strategic planning, development control, appeals, participation, special environments (historic and natural), environmental assessment.
