Description including Unit Aims

This unit follows from the Planning Law unit. That unit considers the legal framework of planning law. This unit explores the way those frameworks interact with policy instruments and wider social and economic contexts to contribute to 'sustainable development' through consideration of the application of those frameworks to selected key topics: affordable housing; climate change; minerals and waste; transportation; retail; travellers, urban regeneration, town centres, landscape and biodiversity protection, planning gain. Students are able to explore particular planning themes in depth and to develop their own individual interests through a piece of personal research in the form of an individual project.
