This unit involves individual coursework in which the students carry out analysis of the energy demands of car transportation and write up the analysis in the form of a 20-page report plus appendix with relevant calculations/programs. The study involves simulation of the energy demands of car transportation on two specific routes. Different types of vehicle are considered including IC engine, hybrid, electric and fuel cell. The study involves determining the relative performance of each vehicle in terms of fuel efficiency, environmental impact, cost and compatibility with existing infrastructures.
