Strategic Management is a capstone course, designed to integrate the learning from preceding units and develop students&) ability to take a strategic perspective. The objective is to develop the strategic manager, able to understand the impact of internal and external influences on the organisation; to develop a view regarding the future state of the environment and of the place of the organisation within it; and to manage the present in order to bring about such a future state. This course is designed to draw upon the knowledge and skills learned in the preceding modules and to integrate these into a strategic framework through extensive use of case studies, exercises, readings, discussion and lectures. Throughout the module, students will be exposed to the major schools of thought in strategic management and will be encouraged to examine critically classical and modern approaches to strategy formulation, selection and implementation.
