The research methods unit is designed to prepare students for the dissertation stage of their Master's degree. Research is the basis of discovery, of knowledge and of evidence-based practice. At the same time, managers and others working in organisations are often encouraged to accept new ways of doing things that have not been based on sound research practice. The unit is designed to help students develop research strategies and designs, and at the same time, differentiate between good and bad research. This means that students will both be able to produce a better research study themselves, and become more alert to the quality of research they are asked to accept.
