This unit is concerned primarily with helping students to develop their strategic thinking. Thinking strategically is both a science, having a robust understanding of alternative ways of analysing a strategic situation and a good knowledge of different models and concepts that can be applied to aid that understanding, and an art, developing the judgement of which body of knowledge is most appropriate in a given situation. Strategic thinking also requires strong skills in synthesis, the bringing together of different and sometimes diverse sources of information to produce a $big picture& that can be applied to an organisational situation.
