This unit will offer an opportunity for detailed study of a particular area of interest, typically, but not necessarily, of a historical nature. The project will result in a dissertation of 5,000 words, presented according to modern, professional scholarly conventions. It will involve a substantial degree of independent study, although there will be regular tutorial supervision and seminars in which bibliographies, outlines and methodological strategies will be formulated.
