Description including Unit Aims

This unit applies the theoretical basics of plasma physics from PHYSM1800 to astrophysical and fusion plasmas to describe: conditions for fusion reactors; plasma heating in tokamaks; the nature of tokamak equilibria; instabilities and reconnection in tokamaks; planetary magnetospheres; reconnection in the solar-terrestrial environment; shocks; acceleration of particles in astrophysics; and accretion phenomena in X-ray binaries and active galaxies.
