This unit gives an introduction to the General Theory of Relativity, concentrating on the physical principles rather than the mathematics. Cosmological models based on Einstein's field equations will be described and the observational tests which can be made in these models will be discussed. Finally the problems associated with the inhomeogeneities in the Cosmic background radiation, the existence of dark matter and the development of large- scale structures in the Universe will be considered.
