Description including Unit Aims

This unit explores some major works and writers from the second half of the nineteenth and the very early twentieth centuries, which saw the blossoming of modern Czech prose fiction. The unit will consider the development of rural and urban realism and the influence of late Romanticism and Decadence in Czech prose in this period. Students will normally study four or five works, including writers like Halek, Nemcova, Svetla, Neruda, Zeyer and Dyk.
