Description including Unit Aims

This unit concentrates on developing further speaking, listening, writing and reading as well as translation skills. The main focus is on the development of active and passive languauge skills acquired in previous years of study. In the beginning of the year, students will choose a number of topics on which work with text, presentations, listening, writing and translation exercises will be built.

Aims:

This unit will practice and develop students oral, aural, reading, writing and translation skills to an advanced level. Through the work on individual topics, this unit will provide students with an extensive vocabulary as well as knowledge of Czech society.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to produce Czech accurately and fluently both in spoken and written form.
  • They will be able to work with authentic material, both written and aural, and retrieve necessary information.
  • They will be able to differentiate between different registers and nuances in Czech.
  • They will be equipped to continue to develop their Czech independently.

Teaching Information

Three hours weekly in small groups tutorials.

Assessment Information

3-hour written examination 60%. Oral/aural exam - 25%. Class test (end of TB1)  15%.
