Description including Unit Aims

The unit offers in-depth analysis of patterns and contexts of employment and diverse theoretical perspectives. It examines changes in family/household, the economy and work organisation, and progress towards gender equality in particular sectors. The unit encourages an appreciation of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and particular use is made of comparative research. Core themes are dimensions of diversity and gender difference; gender relations, organisational cultures and sexuality; economic restructuring and globalisation. Topics include shifting home/work boundaries; migration; sex industry growth and regulation.
