This unit will introduce the science of sound, electro-acoustic instrumentation and the basic construction and function of hearing aids. It will outline the history of the development and provision of hearing aids before over-viewing current principles of assessment and treatment of hearing loss in the NHS, including the appropriate use of assistive learning devices. It will give an account of the structure and functions of a contemporary Audiology department.
