Companion Animal Science is one of three professional examinations in the final BVSc and consists of fifteen taught elements undertaken in the 3rd and 4th years (CAS A) complemented by clerking rotations beginning in the summer of the fourth year and running through the final year (CAS B). The assessment of CAS B depends on clerking marks (60%), practical exam (computer based steeplechase, 20%) and final vivas (20%). Elements of veterinary public health are included in CAS B as they relate to the subject area (e.g. zoonoses arising from companion animals). The clerking rotations include exposure to small animal surgery, small animal medicine, first opinion small animal practice, small animal imaging, equine imaging, anaesthesia of large and small animals, dermatology in companion animals, equine medicine, equine surgery, first opinion equine practice.
