Description including Unit Aims

Aerospace Composites Manufacture (10 lectures, Dr Potter): Development of composites manufacturing, interpreting drawings, sources of variability and tolerances, tooling design, reinforcements and drape, resin flow processes, quality issues, specific manufacturing processes, post moulding operations, using case study material in examples classes to illustrate issues. Applications (1 lab demonstration class, Dr Potter): Detailed examination of real components manufactured by a variety of routes, extracting manufacturing information from drawings, development of manufacturing instructions. Aerospace Composites Design (10 lectures, Dr Farrow): Design schemes and checks for the preliminary structural design of aerospace composite components, covering material, structure and assembly levels of design and supported by worked examples and case studies. Structural Design Analysis (10 examples classes, Dr Farrow): Lamina, laminate, structure, assembly and configuration level examples of design and analysis.
