Description including Unit Aims

The fundamental principles underlying helicopter flight are to be revealed in order to give the student an understanding of flight behaviour for a helicopter. Beginning with autogyros, but extending to modern powered structures with active control, the unit will introduce all central elements which contribute to a design: engine, gearbox, rotor, aerodynamics, blade and airframe dynamics. Major problems, such as those related to aeroelasticity will be clarified.
