This unit aims to aquaint students with the material culture, and evidence for social change, for the Bronze Age in Europe between 2500-500 BC. Emphasis will be placed on the contexts in which the material culture is found, the models of interpretation which alllow behavioural information to be inferred and a thorough review of the basic data sets that underpin these analyses. The unit introduces students to the main cultural formations of the Barbarian Bronze Age, and makes specific linkages to cognate disciplines of Social Anthropology, European Prehistory, Classical Archaeology, Comparative World Archaeology and Archaeoscience.
