This unit covers the Palaeolithic period from 500,000 to 10,000BC. Although much of the Palaeolithic in Britain was subjected to glaciation, there is evidence of human activity during the inter-glacial periods. This unit will examine the evidence for human settlement in the British Isles and explores models of hunter-gatherer subsistence strategies and territorial movement. This course unit will be taught chronologically, taking a thematic and landscape perspective.
