This unit allows students to experience one region of the Mediterranean through guided travel, museum and site visits. Students will develop and research a related topic for their dissertation utilising the specialist facilities available at the British Academy-funded Schools abroad (e.g. Ankara; Athens; Rome) or recognised foreign institutions of higher education and research (e.g. University of Malta; University of Cyprus; Egypt Exploration Fund; American University in Cairo, etc.).In exceptional circumstances (e.g. illness or sudden closure of relevant institution abroad due to terrorist attacks, earthquakes, etc.) the month's study abroad can be replaced by a month's study tour of UK museums and archaeological sites with relevant collections/remains or by a month's placement in a UK museum working on Mediterranean archaeological collections.
