The unit is designed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills to provide assessment in Paediatric Audiology, including essential components for preparing the progress within the BAA higher training scheme. In addition, this unit will provide participants with an opportunity to understand how early childhood hearing impairment can influence developmental stages and how early childhood deafness affects long term health consequences of social integration. Various models of deafness will be introduced. Different models used affect how deaf children are treated and their identity.
Aims:
This unit will provide participants with a systematic understanding of knowledge within the areas of paediatric audiological assessment and develop a critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights in assessing children with possible hearing loss.
