An introductory unit designed for those who have little or no previous knowledge of Latin, and aiming to teach students the techniques of reading straightforward Latin texts with the aid of a dictionary and reference grammar. Initially students will be introduced to the workings of an inflected language and the grammatical terms used to analyse it. Where appropriate, the contexts of original Latin passages will also be studied in order to help students place the Latin language in its ancient cultural and literary contexts.
