Pompeii has played a major part in the way we imagine and relate to the ancient world, both scientifically and emotionally. This unit will explore how various groups have responded to Pompeii and how contemporary preoccupations have affected the way that Pompeii has been viewed. It will look not only at academic scholarship but also at art, novels and film.
