Description including Unit Aims

The units aims to develop an understanding of some of the techniques of cryptography and the underlying ideas behind them. This will involve the analysis of some early historical ciphers, plus the two most popular moden ones (RSA and DES). You will learn the main supporting tools from Information Theory, Complexity Theory and Number Theory.
