Description including Unit Aims

This unit provides an introduction to the linguistics of sign languages for BSL users and students of the language. This course will introduce students to the formational structure of sign language (phonology), how signs are formed and created (morphology), how signs are combined into sentences (syntax), how sign language structure is used to communicate meaning (semantics), and the glossing, transcription and other conventions used to document sign language data.
