Description including Unit Aims

This unit is for those interested in the practical craft of creative writing for Animation for Film and TV. We'll look at history and development of the different forms of animation and animated film, both for television as series, and the movies. The unit will continue with an analysis of the creative development process (from idea to 'pitch', series 'bible', script and production) alongside commercial considerations (character merchandising, Video and DVD dimensions). We'll consider the selection of subject matter for Animation, and the medium's association with the 'large scale' or fantasic. Students will be expected to produce a substantial piece (or number of smaller pieces) of original creative writing.
