Description including Unit Aims

This core unit will introduce students to four key research areas in screen studies: these may include the historical development of industrial structures and their contemporary significance; screen representations of identity and nation; screen representations of gender; and the contextual scrutiny of mise-en-scene, particularly in relation to film setting. These areas will be explored with reference to a broad range of examples from films, television and screen practices in a variety of national contexts. It will provide students with a clear idea of staff research expertise and act as an incentive for exploration of further research areas.
