This seminar-based unit will introduce students to the history of documentary practice in the visual and audiovisual media, considering the development of forms and conventions and their place within contexts of production and reception. It will also raise awareness of the contemporary industrial, social and political context for documentary practice, appropriate to documentary practitioners.
