Description including Unit Aims

Students may substitute a dissertation for one or other Year 3 Special Subject (under Lists ENGL4 and ENGL5 in the Programme Structures Catalogue). The dissertation is an essay of 6,500 to 8,000 words (including quotations and notes, excluding bibliography) on a subject of a student's choice that has been agreed by the Unit Director and Year 3 Head. Students choosing to write a dissertation will meet regularly with an adviser for discussion of preparatory reading and research, work in progress, and drafts, etc.
