This unit considers the presentation of fundamental human dilemmas - problems of sexuality, power, friendship, freedom and fate - in the narrative poems of Milton, Dryden and Pope, concentrating particularly on the works' central characters, male and female. Main texts: Paradise Lost, Pope's Iliad of Homer; The Rape of the Lock; Dryden's Fables.
