This unit provides an introduction to European painting, sculpture, prints and architecture of the period 1400-1700. In addition to the study of the artistic monuments and well-known artists of this period, the course will investigate issues such as civic, religious and dynastic identities, gender, patronage, iconography, and theoretical and scientific advances. Additionally, students will be introduced to techniques such as fresco and oil painting, printmaking and bronze casting.
