Description including Unit Aims

This unit will provide students with an introduction to the physical and material evidence that works of art incorporate, and which are fundamental to the art historical process of assessing and evaluating the work of art as an object. As a first-year unit it will supply an essential training in the basic skills of observation and examination which underpin all forms of art-historical activity in scholarship, curatorial work and the commercial art world.
