This unit aims to introduce students to a series of different problems posed by the question of the relationship between literature and political history during the period in which centralising monarchy was a major issue in Castile. Texts from the reigns of Enrique IV, and the Reyes Catlicos will be studied in the context of the issues of succession, centralisation, treatment of minorities, and authority.
