This unit examines law and legal practice from the perspective of critical theories of feminism, masculinity and gay politics. It begins by looking at feminist jurisprudence and writings on masculinity and queer theory to establish a theoretical context. The majority of the unit considers aspects of law and legal practice from these gender based perspectives. The topics studied vary slightly from year to year, but include: sexual orientation; criminology and criminal law; child sexual abuse; property law; prostitution; pornography; human rights; sex education; work; the family; sadomasochism; body alteration; transsexuals; and ethics.
