Description including Unit Aims

The course on Fluid Mechanics will introduce you to the fundamentals of fluid-statics and fluid-dynamics and their role in the analysis and design of engineering systems and machines. Starting with the application of the Steady Flow and Bernouli equations to the flow of ideal fluids, the course then considers in detail the role of viscosity in shaping real fluid flows and the effects on drag, pressure drop and pumping power. Applications include pump systems, hydraulic machinery and simple aerofoil behaviour, as well as the industrial measurement of flow rate, pressure etc.
